The University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies invites you to a lecture on “Irish English Invented”, by Dr. Carolina Amador, from the University of Extremadura, in Cáceres, Spain. It will take place on Friday, 6 December, from 2 p.m. till 3.30 p.m., at the Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon, Lecture Room 7.1.

Dr. Carolina P. Amador Moreno is Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Extremadura. Her research interests centre on the English spoken in Ireland and include sociolinguistics, stylistics, language contact, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics and pragmatics. She is the author of An Introduction to Irish English. London: Equinox (2010); The use of Hiberno-English in Patrick MacGill’s Early Novels: Bilingualism and Language Shift from Irish to English in County Donegal. Lewiston, New York: The Edwin Mellen Press (2006); several co-edited volumes including Writing Orality. Lewiston, New York: The Edwin Mellen Press (2009), Pragmatic Markers in Irish English, John Benjamins (forthcoming); and a special issue of the journal Sociolinguistic Studies.

Her lecture will focus on the English spoken in Ireland and how it is represented in fiction.
