“Cultures of Commemoration: The Case of Irish Literature”
Lecture by Professor Rui Carvalho Homem (University of Porto)
Data: 15 March 2016, 6 pm
Local: Theatre IIII, School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon
Organização: Lisbon City Council, Embassy of Ireland, ULICES
This lecture, which will be held in Portuguese, is part of St Patrick’s Festival Lisboa (8-19 March 2016) and will focus on how major Irish writers, from Yeats and Joyce to Beckett and Heaney, approached past and present in their work. Organized by the City Council of Lisbon and the Embassy of Ireland, St Patrick’s Festival Lisboa marks Ireland’s national day and commemorates the centenary of the Easter Rising 1916, which proved to be a seminal, albeit controversial, event in Ireland’s trajectory to independence and partition in 1922.
Admission is free.
