Research Projects:

• “Intercultural Literature in Portugal, 1930-2000: A Critical Bibliography”. This project is a joint research project of Research Group 7 and the Centre for Communication and Cultural Studies, Catholic University of Portugal (CECC-UCP), under the supervision of Teresa Seruya. It aims to produce a database of translated literature published in book form in Portugal, 1930-2000, so as to continue the seminal work of Gonçalves Rodrigues, A Tradução em Portugal, published in five volumes and covering translation in Portugal from 1495-1930. 
• “Antologia(s) de conto inglês traduzido para português/ Anthology/ies of Short Stories in English translated into Portuguese”. This project aims to publish a selection of short stories by contemporary English language writers, some of which are being translated into Portuguese by University of Lisbon MA students, as part of their research projects in Literary Translation, (jointly) supervised by Research Group 7 members. This project benefits from the cooperation of the conference president of the Society for the Study of the Short Story in English and is supervised by João de Almeida Flor, Alexandra Assis Rosa and Luísa Falcão. Short stories currently being translated include works by Robert Olen Butler, Bharati Mukherjee, Clark Blaise, Ana Castillo, Claire Keegan and Tamas Dobozy (Society for the Study of the Short Story in English.
• “Translation of Critical Bibliography – Short Story.” This project is being worked upon jointly by Research Group 7 and Isabel Rocheta and Serafina Martins, of the Centre of Portuguese Language Literatures of the Universities of Lisbon (CLEPUL), and its aim is to translate and publish the Portuguese versions of a selection of seminal English language works on the short story. These translations may result from MA projects being worked upon by students of the Department of English, (jointly) supervised by Research Group 7 members. It aims to disseminate, in Portuguese, English language essays on the short story. This project benefits from the cooperation of Susan Lohafer (University of Iowa, USA) and Maurice Lee (University of Central Arkansas, USA), leading members of the Society for the Study of the Short Story in English.
• “Production of a bibliography of anthologies of English language Short Stories translated into Portuguese.” This project aims to research the relevance of translation for the development of the literary genre of the “short story” in Portugal by producing a bibliography of anthologies of English language short stories translated into Portuguese and generally presented to the Portuguese reader in the form of anthologies (volumes/collections). The project benefits from the cooperation of the Society for the Study of the Short Story in English, and it may also include the cooperation of other Portuguese and European research groups.
